Learn how to play poker

From a distance, or to a newbie, Poker seems a complex and intricate card game, which can be hard to take in all at once. Contradictorily though, it is quite simple to learn how to play poker. Poker is a card game based generally on hand rankings (a hand being the cards dealt to a person), where the winner takes the Pot, which is the amount collected through bets placed by all the players.

To learn how to play poker, a person requires a good knowledge of hand rankings. Another requirement is an idea of mathematical probabilities of the hands that can be formed by you as well as the probability of your opponent having a superior hand.

This part of the game remains the same, in all the different variants of Poker. When learning to play Poker, the difficulties arise in the betting systems which vary from one type of Poker to another. These rules may be a little tough to remember initially, but a few basic guidelines will help.

Initially, at the first betting round, a bet may be forced on each player, to ensure that there is some money in the pot. But in subsequent rounds of betting, the bet placed is voluntary, based on the player’s judgment that there is a good chance of being dealt a winning hand. If this is not the case, the player has the option of folding (take no further part in the round) and forgoing the initial amount placed in the pot.

Texas Hold‘Em is currently the most popular variant of the game. To learn how to play Poker (Texas Hold’Em ) , a beginner must become familiar with hand rankings. The highest hand wins. A round of Texas Hold’Em proceeds as follows –

First, the two players to the dealer’s left play some decided amount of money into the pot, called a blind (blind bet, since they are betting without being dealt cards). Then the dealer deals two cards per player, after which players can look at their cards and decide whether to match the blind and play on, or fold. After this, the three cards are placed face up for all the players to use. This is followed by a round of betting, after which another card is placed face up. Then, after another bet is place, the last card is placed face up (there are now 5 “communal” cards that any player can use) and a last round of betting ensues. The player with the best hand of 5 cards out of 7 (2 cards per player plus the 5 communal cards) wins the pot. Learning how to play Poker is an easy task.

Once the basics are learnt, one important facet of learning how to play Poker is the art of bluffing. Putting on a “Poker Face” to convince your opponents that you possess a high ranked hand, and thereby making them fold, thus winning the hand.

It is remarkably simple to How To Play Poker . Keep in mind – hand rankings, probability, being a good liar, and quitting while you’re ahead.
